Description:
The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at Hankuk University of
Foreign Studies (Yongin Campus) invites applications for a non-tenure track
position with the specialty of phonetics and/or phonology. Candidates
should have a non-Korean citizenship, and are required to have sufficient
proficiency of the English language to lecture in English. They are
required to hold a PhD in linguistics at the time of application. Each
semester, the selected candidate will teach about three courses (i.e. eight
credit hours) of linguistics including a graduate-level seminar.
The salary is based on the university's appointment scale determined by the
candidate's research and teaching experience. For example, the expected
income level for assistant professor will be around 40,000,000 KW (= about
40,000 USD) per year plus housing supported by the university. Additional
financial incentives are available depending on academic performance. We
provide one-way airplane tickets to Seoul, Korea for the faculty member and
his/her spouse on the commencement of employment.
Contract is made for one year, and is renewable up to three times, i.e. for
four years. This position is ideal for a new-born PhD who needs teaching
and research career, and for a senior scholar who seeks for new research
environments for a year or so.

Selected candidates on the short list will be requested to submit four
recent photos of less -than 3.5*4.5 cm, a copy of PhD dissertation, copies
of recent academic works, official transcripts of BA, MA, and PhD, official
documents certifying work experience, a copy of the passport information
page, and a copy of the alien registration card (if the applicant were
staying in Korea) by June 14, 2008. These candidates will have an interview
and a job talk around the end of June, 2008.
