Description:
The University of Massachusetts is offering a limited number of graduate
teaching assistantships to students admitted to the M.A./Ph.D. program in
Hispanic Linguistics through the Department of Languages, Literatures and
Cultures for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year. Graduate students in Hispanic
Linguistics may specialize in such areas as Spanish dialectology,
sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, computer-assisted language
learning, and computational linguistics. Students are also encouraged to take
classes in the Department of Linguistics (http://www.umass.edu/linguist/), one
of the top-ranked Ph.D. programs in the country.
Qualified applicants will be considered for a graduate teaching assistantship,
which includes a tuition waiver as well as a monthly stipend during the academic
year. Graduate assistants teach undergraduate courses offered as part of the
Spanish language program. Demonstration of native or native-like fluency in
Spanish is necessary prior to appointment.
Students applying for the Ph.D. program should have an M.A. in Hispanic
linguistics, linguistics, or related areas.
