Description:
The Department of Linguistics, Southern Illinois University Carbondale,
invites applications for two positions: (a) Tenure-track Assistant
Professor. PhD required in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related
field of study. If all requirements for the doctorate are not completed by
Aug 16, 2009, a one-year term appointment will be offered at rank of
Instructor at a reduced rate of pay; (b) Non-tenure-track Lecturer. PhD or
ABD required in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field of
study (completed PhD preferred). Candidates for either position must have
experience or demonstrated potential in teaching Linguistics, Applied
Linguistics, and/or TESOL. Preference will be given to candidates with
strong teaching credentials and potential to teach a variety of courses,
specifically some subset of the following: phonology, phonetics, (second)
language acquisition, theory and methods in linguistics and TESOL, ESL,
syntax, pedagogical grammar, bilingual education, and teacher training.
Candidates for the tenure-track position must have demonstrated potential
to conduct and disseminate research (area of scholarship is open) and to

application with an explicit statement of the position of interest
(tenure-track, non-tenure-track, both), teaching interests and (for the
tenure-track position) research accomplishments and future goals, a current
curriculum vitae, teaching evaluations (if available), and letters from
three referees under separate cover.
