Meeting Description:

The Department of Language and Communication at VU University Amsterdam will
host the 9th Biennial IAFL Conference on Forensic Linguistics/Language and Law. 

Last Call for Papers

We invite individual papers and posters that deal with all aspects of forensic
linguistics/language and law, including but not limited to topics such as:
- courtroom interaction
- police interviews
- courtroom interpreting and translating 
- the readability/comprehensibility of legal documents 
- the analysis/interpretation of legal texts
- the communicative challenges of 'vulnerable' witnesses
- language minorities and the legal system
- the use of linguistic evidence in court 
- authorship/speaker identification 
- the teaching/testing of forensic linguistics/language and law

Presentations will be 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Abstracts should be 300-350 words long and can be submitted electronically at
the conference website http://iafl09.let.vu.nl/ 

We also invite proposals for thematic sessions which are scheduled for 2-hour
blocks, with a maximum of two linked sessions. Organizers may organize as they
choose, but time should be allocated for presentations, discussion and audience
response. Proposals with an indication of participants and a brief description
of their contributions may be submitted electronically at the conference website
http://iafl09.let.vu.nl/ 

Important Dates:
November 14 2008: Abstracts are due 
January 2009: Notification of acceptance of papers.

A one-day workshop in honor of Celia Jakubowicz will take place on Friday 30
January at the University Paris 8. The workshop is organized by the Laboratoire
Structures Formelles du Langage, UMR 7023 CNRS, University Paris 8, the
Laboratoire Psychologie de la Perception, UMR 8158 CNRS, University
Paris-Descartes, Institut de Psychologie, Centre Biomédical des Saints-Pères and
the Laboratoire de Psychologie et Neurosciences Cognitives, UMR 8189 CNRS,
University Paris-Descartes, Institut de Psychologie, Boulogne.
Plenary conferences by invited speakers will alternate with talks given by
younger scholars who were Ph.D students or close collaborators of Celia
Jakubowicz. In addition, a poster session will be organized. Submissions which
present research on morphology or syntax in the field of first language
acquisition by (a)typical developing children will be considered. Abstracts
submitted must represent original research. Abstracts should be anonymous,
clearly titled and no more than 500 words in length. Text of abstract should fit
on one page, with a second page for examples, figures, or references. The
abstracts should be sent by e-mail as a PDF file to
carla.soaresjesel at linguist.jussieu.fr or to rleslie at noos.fr. Join separately a
file containing: title, author's name and address, affiliation and e-mail
address. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint
abstract per author.

Deadline for submissions: the 10th December 2008

Notice of acceptance will be sent to first authors, by the end of December, by
e-mail.
