introduction:

The aim of the Corpus of Language and Nature (CLAN) is the intercultural
study of the language of emotions in relation to nature. For this purpose,
CLAN will compile the spoken reaction to a selection of photographs, with
attention to the principles of Landscape Ecology. The corpus will consider
speakers of English as a foreign/second language of different mother
tongues, as well as speakers of English as a mother tongue.

We invite language researchers interested in intercultural communication to
create their own section of the corpus. Participants will have access to
the whole corpus after compilation of their own sub corpus.

Some Details of Clan:
-Each language subcorpus will consist of 50 interviews (25 males and 25
females).
-Informants must be between 18-40 years of age, no specific academic
qualification is required.
-Corpus collection will be audio-recorded (high quality), and will be
suitable for phonological analysis.
-The recordings will be transfered to DVD's/CD's and sent to the CLAN
Center Archive at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
-Transcription of data by each language team is not necessary, as the
corpus is audio-based. Nevertheless, a contact person in each team must be
available for consultation to clarify doubts on their data.
-Team leaders will be updated with information regarding new languages in
the archive, and common topics of research will be suggested to promote
intercultural comparisons.
