Description:

Applications are invited for a tenure-stream position at the rank of
Assistant Professor in Language and Culture in the Department of
Humanities, University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), to begin July 1, 2009.

This is a tenure-stream position in Intersections, Exchanges, Encounters
(IEE), a program in the humanities that supports the emerging fields and
methodologies which are situated between established disciplines. The
successful candidate's primary research and teaching interests will revolve
around the conceptualization of language as a vehicle for understanding
cultural intersections, encounters, and exchanges. We are particularly
interested in approaches that focus on ethnicity, media, visual languages,
sexuality, or the environment. This is an open-discipline position in the
humanities.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and
will supervise M.A. and Ph.D. graduate students in his/her area of
expertise. She/he will teach in a new selective (honours) program as well
as in an established Humanities discipline. She/he will be expected to play
a key role in promoting and developing this new program. PhD and clear
evidence of excellence in teaching and research are required. Salary will
be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
 
UTSC is a research-intensive division in the University of Toronto. It has
