Abstract:

In the literature about Tense and Aspect it is unavoidable to make
reference to compound tenses. In part, because the analysis of some of them
is extremely complex. The present perfect is the most representative
example. And also because both diachronic and crosslinguistic studies have
posed a huge range of new questions. This volume is devoted to these verbal
forms. Leading scholarships contribute with proposals that originate in the
most recent theories about the temporal and aspectual meaning of compound
tenses. The book also includes contributions concerning verbal groups of
very different nature and periphrastic forms that, strictly, are not
included in the verbal paradigm. 

En la bibliografía sobre las categorías gramaticales de Tiempo y Aspecto la
referencia a los tiempos compuestos es inevitable. En parte, por la
dificultad que entraña el análisis de algunos de ellos. Es el caso, por
ejemplo, del pretérito perfecto simple. Y en parte, asimismo, por el
abanico de nuevas cuestiones que se han planteado tanto a partir del
estudio diacrónico como de la comparación lingüística. Este volumen está
dedicado a estas formas verbales. Un grupo de destacados investigadores han
participado con propuestas que tienen su origen en las más recientes
teorías sobre el significado temporal y aspectual de las formas verbales
compuestas. El libro incluye también algunas contribuciones acerca de
complejos verbales de muy diversa naturaleza y sobre formas perifrásticas
que estrictamente no forman parte de la conjugación verbal.
