Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Translating / Interpreting

The Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies is strong in Applied
Chinese Language Studies. It offers bachelor, master, and doctoral
programmes in Translating, Interpreting, Bilingual Studies, Chinese
Linguistics, Chinese Language teaching, and teaching Chinese as a second
language. Within the Department, there is a Centre for Translation Studies,
a Testing Unit, and a Chinese Language Centre which provides training in
Chinese language and Putonghua for the whole university. The Department
has a total of 71 academic staff members. Please visit the website at

The appointee will be required to (a) contribute to teaching and learning
in Translating and/or Interpreting at both undergraduate and postgraduate
levels; (b) engage actively in research, consultancy and other scholarly
activities; and (c) undertake academic and administrative duties. The
appointee for the Associate Professor post will also be required to provide
leadership in research, programme/curriculum development and
administration, etc.
Applicants should have (a) a Ph.D. in Language Studies, Literary Studies,
Translation Studies or related fields; (b) relevant teaching experience;
(c) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning; and (c) a
strong record of output in research and development that is commensurate
with the level of appointment. Preference will be given to those with
experience in teaching Interpreting and/or Translating.
The appointee for the Associate Professor post should also (a) have an
outstanding level of knowledge of and extensive experience in related
disciplines; and (b) demonstrate the ability to actively contribute to
issues and initiatives at departmental, faculty and university levels.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service:
Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.
Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Remuneration
package will be highly competitive. Applicants should state their current
