Description:

The Department of English at Baylor University invites applications for the
position of Department Chair beginning in September 2009. This position
carries the rank of associate or full professor. Applicants should have an
excellent record of scholarly achievement and administrative experience.
Additional experience obtaining external funding is a plus. The successful
applicant will be a nationally-recognized scholar, will be committed to
excellence in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, and will strongly
support Baylor's Christian identity and mission (www.baylor.edu/vision/).
The area of research is open.

Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, Baylor University is the oldest
university in Texas and the world's largest Baptist University. Baylor's

interview on 6 December 2008 (Dallas-Ft. Worth airport). Applicants should
also arrange to have three recent letters of reference and transcripts sent
directly to the search committee. A standard background check is also
required. For full consideration, applications must be received by 3
November 2008. Review of applications will begin on 4 November 2008, and
will continue until the search is completed.

Baylor University has approximately 14,000 students. The department has 44
full-time faculty members and offers three degrees - BA in English
Literature, Professional Writing, or Linguistics; MA in English; and the
PhD in English Literature or Religion and Literature (the latter a
concentration, not a degree program). The university provides generous
