Fourth International FLaRN Conference
Tuesday 23 - Friday 26 March, 2010
University of Paderborn, Germany

Fourth International FLaRN Conference: Interdisciplinary Conference on Formulaic Language

Confirmed Keynote Speakers:

Professor Alison Wray, Cardiff University, U.K.

Professor Diana Van Lancker-Sidtis, New York University, U. S. A.

Professor Manfred Pienemann, University of Paderborn, Germany, and University of Newcastle, U. K.

The 2010 FLaRN conference addresses researchers working on topics associated with formulaic language such as idioms, chunks, phrases or recurrent strings. It is open to scholars from any area of linguistics (e.g. corpus research, L1 acquisition, L2 acquisition/learning/teaching, language disorders, etc) and to researchers from other disciplines such as literature and culture. The conference is directed both at postgraduates and professionals.

The conference has developed out of the Formulaic Language Research Network (FLaRN) whose purpose it is to co-ordinate research work in the field of formulaic language, to share ideas and resources, and to create a sense of community between researchers who are not necessarily in geographical proximity. The network is a tool for keeping a group of like-minded people from around the world in touch with each other, and has been the focal point for three postgraduate conferences in Cardiff (2004), Twickenham (2005) and Nottingham (2008).
