The 22nd Annual Meeting of the Central Association of Teachers of Japanese 
(CATJ 22)
Saturday, May 22 - Sunday, May 23, 2010
Purdue University
West Lafayette, Indiana

CATJ 22 aims to present a forum in which to exchange ideas about innovative
pedagogical methods, organizational curriculum design, and effective
instructional interventions that will enhance K-12 to postsecondary level
learners' Japanese learning. It provides a venue for scholars and graduate
students to present works on a wide variety of issues in Japanese pedagogy,
literature, culture, and linguistics, which thus offers conference participants
opportunities to learn from others' creative endeavors and cutting-edge
research. CATJ also serves as a gathering place for Japanese teachers and
researchers to exchange ideas on teaching and research topics, and to
collaborate more fully across disciplines. 

Call for Papers

Submission deadline:  2/15/2010

CATJ 22 calls for papers in areas of Japanese language pedagogy, Japanese
linguistics, second language acquisition, language testing, literature,
technology application, and teacher training. Proposals of a wide range of
topics will be considered, but those which underscore the connection to the
central theme of the conference, "Research, Practice, and Theory of Japanese
Language Education," will be given priority. We are looking forward to
innovative perspectives and approaches in addressing this theme. Paper
presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.

The conference themes to be addressed during CATJ 22 include the following:
- Acquisition of Japanese as a second/foreign language
- Bilingual education; Japanese as a heritage language
- Content-based instruction in Japanese classrooms
- Use of technology in Japanese classrooms
- Assessment in Japanese classrooms
- Teaching Japanese literature and culture

The language of presentation can be either English or Japanese. The maximum
length of an abstract is 300 words in English or 700 characters in Japanese. All
abstracts will be submitted through the CATJ22 online submission system. To
submit an abstract, please access to the CATJ 22 homepage
