Meeting Description: 

The 33rd Annual Penn Linguistics Colloquium  (March 27-29, 2009)
The PLC is a conference in linguistics run by the graduate students in the
Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania.  

We hope to feature a special workshop focused on methods of modeling linguistic
and biological change.

More details about the conference will be posted in the coming weeks. 

The 33rd Annual Penn Linguistics Colloquium will take place March 27-29 at the
University of Pennsylvania [1]. Friday's special panel session will be held in
Claudia Cohen Hall. Saturday and Sunday's sessions will take place in Jon M.
Huntsman Hall.

Keynote Address [2]:
Elisabeth Selkirk (UMass, Amherst)

Spelling out Syntactic Constituents as Prosodic Domains:
Match Constraints and the Syntax-prosodic Structure Interface

Special Panel [3]:
Inspired by the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species
there will be a special workshop on Friday, March 27th focusing on affinities in
models of linguistic and biological change titled ''Evolutionary Models of
Change in Linguistics and Biology'' with panelists from both linguistics and
biology. The panelists are Anthony Kroch, William Labov, Donald Ringe, Charles
Yang, Warren Ewens, Joshua Plotkin, Sarah Tishkoff, and Carlo Maley.

The PLC 33 program includes sessions on language change, syntax,
phonetics/phonology, sociolinguistics, semantics, psycholinguistics, and

The preregistration deadline is Friday, March 13. To preregister, visit

and mail your payment ($30 students/$40 nonstudents) to Penn Linguistics
Colloquium, Dept. of Linguistics, University of Pennsylvania, 619 Williams Hall,
Philadelphia, PA 19104-2653. You can register for the Friday special panel
session(only), or the entire conference. 

Onsite registration will cost an additional $10-15! Be sure to pre-register
before March 13!
