The annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
The premier national meeting for communicating scientific research findings to
the public and to scientists in other disciplines. AAAS has a huge variety of
symposia and lectures, including many of interest to linguists. AAAS Section Z,
'Linguistics and Language Sciences', is sponsoring two symposia at the February
meeting in Chicago: 'Embodied Language and Cognition: Brains, Mouths, and Hands'
and 'Languages Without Ancestors'. The following sessions should also be of
interest to many linguists: 'The Evolution of Knowledge Production: Exploring
Creativity, Innovation, and Networks', 'Evolution of Human Attributes',
'Providing Science Advice to the U.S. Congress: Is a New Paradigm Needed?',
'Information and Communications Technology and Sustainable Infrastructure',
'Comparative Cognition: The Science of Mental Evolution', and 'The Origin of the
Human Species'.
