Description:

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures at The University of
Manchester, UK, is seeking to fill the position of Lecturer in
Psycholinguistics.

The salary scale is £32,458 - £44,931 p.a., depending on experience and
qualifications.
The post is available from 1 September 2009.

Candidates with a research specialism in any area of psycholinguistics are
encouraged to apply. An ability to provide teaching at undergraduate and
postgraduate level in child language development will be an advantage. 

Candidates should have proven ability and potential in research, with a
developing record of publications in any area of psycholinguistics. The
post-holder will be expected to contribute to research activities within
the area of psycholinguistics, generate scholarly publications, submit
research grant applications and participate in research supervision at PhD
level. The post is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious scholar to
develop their career in an environment conducive to excellence in research
and teaching.

The appointed candidate will be expected to take an active interest in
teaching, find ways of encouraging student learning and be prepared to
adopt different methodologies for teaching and assessment to suit different
student groups. The candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching at
both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate must be
able to collaborate closely with colleagues in the delivery of teaching and
learning, be willing to take a share of responsibilities for student
progress and academic management, and above all be eager to make a full
commitment to our ideals of collegiality and academic integrity at all
levels of activity. 

Essential
- a doctorate, completed or near to completion, in any area of
psycholinguistics. 
- proven ability and potential in research with a developing record of
publications. 
- the proven ability to contribute to a scholarly environment of
international research excellence.  
- the ability to teach course units in psycholinguistics. 
- a strong commitment to high-quality, research-led teaching. 
- the ability to fulfil required administrative responsibilities efficiently. 
- a strong commitment to collegiality. 

Desirable
- the ability to teach course units in the area of child language development 
- the ability to teach course units in further areas of linguistics and/or
English language studies 
- excellent presentational skills necessary for lectures, seminars and
small group teaching. 
- good IT skills. 
 
During the first four years of appointment, the probationary period, any
appointee who has not previously held a full-time university post will
normally be expected to bear no more than two-thirds of a typical teaching
load and will not be expected to undertake any major administrative duties.
