The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Job Rank: Associate Professor

Specialty Areas: Discourse Analysis; Pragmatics; Sociolinguistics; Social Aspects of Digital Media

Description:

We are looking for an associate professor in one of the relevant domains
described below. By filling the vacancy, the department aims to achieve two
goals:

-First, to expand the curriculum of the Communication and Information

Our main preference is for an emphasis on how new media bring about changes
in the way people create social contexts (twitter, blog, facebook, hyves,
linkedIn, etc.) and how they fulfil their roles in society (as consumers,
citizens, patients, etc.)
-Secondly, to add more weight to the research on the social aspects of new
media within the Communication and Cognition research programme, with an
emphasis on a particular societal and scientific perspective (marketing,
consumer behaviour, health communication, etc.) and in collaboration with
the members of the research programme Communication and Cognition who are
active in this area already (commercial communication, socio-psychological
aspects of communication, the study of computer mediation in collaborative
learning and negotiations, etc.).

TASKS
-Teaching and developing courses (in Dutch or English) in the Bachelor's
and (Research) Master's programs of Communication and Information Sciences
(CIW), specialisation Business Communication and Digital Media
(www.tilburguniversity.nl/faculties/humanities/education/)
-Carrying out research in the Communication & Cognition research program.
-Coordinating research projects and supervising research from colleagues.
-Developing initiatives ((joint) projects, co-operation) focusing on the
social aspects of new media and mediated communication.
-Setting up and supervising research by Bachelor's and Master's students.
-Carrying out managerial and organizational tasks, on the level of the
departement and the faculty.
-Acquisition of external research funds.

REQUIREMENTS
-Candidates must hold a PhD in one of the following disciplines:
communication science, business communication, economic psychology, social
psychology, cognitive psychology, or another relevant discipline.
-Demonstrable expertise in and affinity with design, use, and evaluation
of new communicative modes, tools and techniques (linguistic or otherwise).
-Sound knowledge of and experience with quantitative methods and research
techniques, and statistical data analysis.
-A high degree of research experience, as evidenced through a significant
publication record in high-ranking (international) journals.
-Considerable record and experience in acquiring project grants, contract
research and (academic) management.
-Experience in developing and teaching Bachelor's and (Research) Master's
courses.
-Familiarity with new media as a means of communication, a didactic and a
research tool.
