Description:

The Linguistics Program of the College of Liberal Arts, University of
Minnesota invites applications for two 100%-time term faculty positions in
Linguistics. Appointments will be made at the rank of contract assistant
professor. Appointments will begin 31 August 2009 and conclude 30 May 2010.
Renewal may be possible for an additional term or terms. 

Required qualifications include a PhD in Linguistics and at least one year
of college level teaching experience in Linguistics. Candidates for one
position must have a primary specialization in syntactic theory. Candidates
for the second position may have a specialization in any area of linguistic
theory. 

Preferred qualifications include at least two years' experience teaching
Linguistics courses at the college level. Candidates will be expected to
provide evidence of excellence in teaching. 

Preference will be given to candidates in areas of specialization for which
there is the greatest need. Needs are anticipated in syntax, language
typology, semantics, pragmatics, phonology, computational linguistics, and
field methods. 

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their
academic preparation and scholarly work, evidence of research ability,
evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of
recommendations.   

Duties/Responsibilities: The appointees will be expected to teach five
classes including at least one section of Introduction to Linguistics or
Language and Society, depending upon the person's area of specialization.
Other responsibilities include engaging in an active program of scholarly
research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising students,
and contributing service to the Program, College, and University.
