This conference is expected to bring together experts on the field of
cross-cultural dialogue from differnt parts of the world to share ideas and
contribute to better understanding of cultural diversity from a linguistic
perspective. 

Call for Papers

Under the patronage of his royal highness prince Hassan Bin Talal,  the Faculty
of Arts at Al-Isra Private University cordially invites you to  participate in
its international conference entitled: "Missing Dimensions in Cross - Cultural
Dialogue" to be held at its campus in Amman, Jordan on the 8th and 9th of July,
2009.  Below is a list of the main topics of the conference. Your participation
is  most welcome. 

Conference Topics
1. Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Terminology and Concepts. 
a. The technical terms relevant to cultural dialogue. 
a. The concept and its manifestations in the past, present and future. 

2. The Role of Research and Educational Institutions in Cross- Cultural Dialogue. 
a. Curricula  
b. The role of scientific, social and cultural theories.
c. Centralism in forming discourse. 
d. Objectivity of scientific research methodology. 

3. The Role of Language, Literature and Translation in Cross-Cultural Dialogue. 
a. The role of literature: comparative literature and travel literature. 
b. The role of translation (religious, linguistic, literary, scientific, and
media.) 
c. Cultural dialogue from a linguistic perspective (lexicography, semantics,
pragmatics and discourse analysis). 
d. The role of digital language. 
e. The role of teaching and learning languages.
 
4. The Role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Cross-Cultural Dialogue. 
a. The intellectual content of "The Amman Message". 
b. The role of governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations.

5. Divine Religions and Cross-Cultural Dialogue. 
a. The image of prophets in religious sources, media and literary works. 
b. The image of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be with him) in the Holy Scriptures. 
c. The image of Jesus Christ (Peace be with him) in The Holy Quran and Islamic
sources. 
d. The efforts of religious institutions in cross cultural dialogues. 

6. Contemporary International Crises and Suggested Solutions.
a. Values crisis. 
b. Economic crisis. 
c. Social crisis. 
d. Educational crisis. 
e. Environmental and food crisis. 
f. Media crisis.
g. Racial crisis. 
h. Intellectual crisis.
i. Minorities' crisis: integration and identity. 
j. Psychological crisis. 

7. Practical Models of Cross-Cultural Dialogue Experiences. 
a. Presenting projects and experiences that portray the understanding of cross-
cultural dialogue on individual, institutional and national levels, as well as 
the level of official and non-official organizations. 

Abstracts
The conference languages will be Arabic and English. Presentations will consist
of 20 minute slots, followed by a 10 minute discussion time.  Participants
intending to give a paper are requested to e-mail an abstract of  about 200-300
words by April 20, 2009 to the following address:
 isramdccd at yahoo.com

The abstract should include the participant's name, academic position,
affiliation, e-mail address and postal address. Papers (manuscripts) should be
sent before June 1, 2009. Participants without papers are asked to e-mail their
name and academic affiliation by May 1, 2009.
