Working title: Language, culture and ideology in translating from Arabic

Length of proposals:
Abstracts should be approximately 300 words. Article length depends on the
subject matter, but as a rough guide most should be in the region of 5000
to 7000 words, including references.

Only original contributions are accepted. Submission of a manuscript
implies that it has not been previously published and that it is not under
review elsewhere.

Translation may be from Arabic into any language, but the article must be
written in English.

The aim of this volume is to bring together theory and practice of
translation and translating FROM Arabic into any language.  Without
limitations on the subject mattter/genre or the target language, the
anticipated sections of the are as follows (note that final choice will
depend on the requirements of  a coherent volume): 

A) Language (micro levels) and translation from Arabic.
B) Culture/ideology and translation from Arabic (loyalties, patronage,
appropriation, transcreation, translation as social agency,
pseudo-translation, interventions, censorship, distortion, etc).
C) The Discourse of translation from Arabic (theoretical approaches,
universe of discourse, poetics, translation history and historiography,
translation milestones, the discourse of cultural representations and
translation from Arabic, etc)


Deadlines:

1) Abstract submissions:  15 August 2009 (as word-compatible format)
Include in the following order:
a) Title of contribution
b) Name (s) of author (s)
c) Affiliation (s)
d) E-mail address (es)
e) Abstract (300 words)

2) Notification: 30 September 2009.

3) Complete contribution submission: 20 December 2009.

4) Anticipated publication date: Early 2010.
