Grad School Challenge Update
University of Wisconsin-Madion, University of Toronto
and University of Washington have started the race for
the lead in the Grad School Challenge. They have been
passing each other to take the lead each day! They have
started the much awaited competition in the Grad School
Challenge. So far, University of Wisconsin-Madison has
been able to get its faculty, staff and student body to
donate $600. Not far from it is the University of Toronto
with a total of $575. Just barely behind is the University
of Washington. If they continue in these positions, they
will be the lucky recepients of some of the prizes for
the Grad School Challenge.
This year, we have divided the schools in regions.
Yesterday's status for each region was:
University of Botswana (Africa)
University of Toronto (Americas)
Saga National University (Asia)
Universitat de Barcelona (Europe)
University of Cyprus (Middle East)
Griffith University, Monash University (Pacific)
University of Wisconsin-Madison (US East)
University of Washington (US West)

in the Challenge this year, divided by regions at:

If you are one of the Grad School coordinators, remember
that there are some perks to organizing your school's
donations: John Benjamins is donating a prize to the grad school
coordinator who raises the most donations for LINGUIST
each week! What is the prize?
One-year personal subscriptions of the winner's choice
to any of the J. Benjamins journals! How can you resist
that?

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such
can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) Non
Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be
offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers
only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting
your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills
in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure
that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
