Description:
The English Seminar at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, invites
applications for a half-time position of a Teaching and Research Assistant
in English Linguistics (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in Entgeltgruppe 13
TV-L).
The position is available for three years, commencing in September 2009 (or
as soon as possible thereafter). The working hours comprise 19.9 hours a
week and the salary is based on the German public service pay scale 13 TV-L.
Duties:
1. Research in preparation of a Ph.D. in one of the following areas:
Applied Linguistics, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, or
Historical Linguistics
2. Collaboration in research projects in the field of linguistic pragmatics
and sociolinguistics
3. Teaching load of currently one course per semester according to
"Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung" (2 hours/week)
Prerequisites:
M.A. or comparable university degree in English Studies with an emphasis on
Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics or Discourse Analysis (either synchronic or
diachronic)
Desirable Requirements:
1. Research background in Pragmatics (especially Intercultural Pragmatics,
Conversation Analysis) and/or Sociolinguistics (especially Language and
Gender, Ethnography) and/or Discourse Analysis (also diachronic)
2. Experience with data collection and data analysis (incl. transcription)
3. Teaching experience (e.g. tutorials, lectureships)
4. Near-native speaker competence in English
5. Working knowledge of German
6. Knowledge of another language besides German and English
