We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Dear colleagues,
I'm working on non-verbal predication and in particular, the use of
functional items (particles, prepositions, etc.) with non-verbal
predicates, as in the following examples from Welsh (Rouveret 1996:128):
1. Mae Sion yn ddedwydd.
is Siôn PRT happy
Siôn is happy.
2. Y mae Siôn yn feddyg.
PRT is Siôn PRT doctor
Siôn is a doctor.
Among languages claimed to have such a copular particle with adjectival
predicates is Edo (Baker 2003) - moreover, the copular particle is
different for AP and NP predicates.
I'm looking for some native or non-native speakers of and experts on Edo
who would help me answer the following questions (among some more specific
ones):
-- What happens in tenses other than the present tense?
-- What happens in secondary predication (e.g., We find Mary _smart_, Sue
came home _drunk_)?
-- Do all APs behave the same in requiring the copular particle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
O
