Meeting Description:
The Organising Committee of the next AELCO/SCOLA conference is pleased to
announce that its 7th meeting will be held in the Palace of Valdeparaiso
(Almagro) under the auspices of the University of Castilla-La Mancha from
September 30th to October 2nd 2010.
The conference has chosen the topic of "Figuring the World: Cognitive Mechanisms
of Thought and Discourse" and aims at creating a forum of debate on those topics
related to Cognitive Linguistics (e.g. the categorization of natural languages,
prototypes, metaphor and metonymy, the interaction between syntax and semantics,
etc.). It also aims at offering the opportunity to discuss how people use
various cognitive schemas in discourse interaction focusing on who uses them, in
which situations and for which purposes.
Together with plenary talks (one hour), there will be several parallel sessions
and thematic sessions (organized according to topic), as well as a poster session.
In this conference, we will also hold two thematic workshops on two different
areas within Cognitive Linguistics. Thus, we will have one workshop on Cognitive
Sociolinguistics and another on Sensorial Perception and the role of metaphor
and etonymy in its communication. Each of these workshops will consist of 5-6
papers including keynote speakers and presentations).
We have invited the following plenary speakers:
- Ricardo Maldonado (U. Nacional Autonoma de Mexico)
- Juana Marin Arrese (U. Complutense de Madrid)
- Daniel Casasanto (Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen Holanda)
We will also have two keynote speakers in order to organise and conduct the two
Workshops of the conference:
- Carita Paradis (Växjo University, Sweden)
- Dirk Geraeerts (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium)
Call for Papers
The proposals for the general session, workshops, thematic sessions and posters
must be sent to the webpage of the conference before 10th January 2010. The
proposals for the two Workshops must specify clearly the name of the Workshops.
All the proposals will get a mail confirming their acceptance or rejection at
the end of February 2010 together with a report specifying the reasons for
acceptance/rejection.
In order to send a proposal, members of the Association and non-members must
register in the webpage of the conference
(http://aelco2010.aelco.es/en/call-for-papers) and fill in a form with their
personal data (including academic affiliation and e-mail address), and the title
and abstract of the proposal. The text must not be longer than 500 words
(references excluded).

Accepted papers will have 20 minutes for presentation and 8 minutes for debate.
Thematic Sessions
Thematic sessions will consist of 3-5 papers focusing on a common topic and
should all be proposed together under a single title by a coordinator. The
papers should be presented and discussed within the allotted time of one hour
and a half. The proposals should be submitted in the same way as papers in the
general session (see above), but they must include the name of the coordinator
and the general title of the session
Posters

during the conference so that people can see and discuss them with their authors.
