Description: The University of Massachusetts is offering a limited number of
graduate teaching assistantships to students admitted to the MA or PhD programs
in Hispanic Linguistics at the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures
for the upcoming 2010-2011 academic year. Graduate students in Hispanic
Linguistics may specialize in areas such as Spanish dialectology,
sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, applied linguistics and
computer-assisted language learning. Students are also encouraged to take
classes in the Department of Linguistics (http://www.umass.edu/linguist/) that
has one of the top-ranked Ph.D. programs in the country.
Qualified applicants will be considered for a graduate teaching assistantship,
which includes a tuition waiver as well as a monthly stipend during the academic
year. Graduate assistants teach undergraduate courses offered as part of the
Spanish language program. Demonstration of native or native-like fluency in
Spanish is necessary prior to appointment.
Students applying for the PhD program should have an M.A. in Hispanic
linguistics, linguistics, or related areas.
