Abstract:

Neste estudo analisam-se os compostos nominais do Português Europeu
construídos segundo os esquemas Verbo-Nome (VN), Nome-Nome (NN),
Nome-preposição-Nome (NprepN) e Nome-Adjectivo (NA). No capítulo I,
III, 5.). A análise efectuada conduz a

In this study we analyse the nominal compounds from European Portuguese
formed according to the patterns Verb-Noun (VN), Noun-Noun (NN),
Noun-preposition-Noun (NprepN) and Noun-Adjective (NA). In chapter I we
examine the boundaries of compounding. In chapter II we study the internal
constituents of compounds in morphological, syntactic and semantic terms.
In III.2 we distribute the constituents and the products by different
lexical-conceptual areas. In III.3 we analyse the internal structure of
compounds, considering the notions of head, endocentrism and exocentrism.
The syntactic and semantic relations between the constituents of compounds
are analysed in III.4. Finally, we suggest the organisation of data
according to different levels of compositionality.

The study done leads to a renewed notion of nominal compound, understood as
a plurilexematic unit that is stored in one's mental lexicon and that is
also characterised by different levels of structural and semantic
crystallization.

In spite of the apparent heterogeneity inherent to data, the analysis of
the internal structure of compounds permits us to verify that the internal
constituents are linked by different grammatical relations: coordination,
completive subordination and modificative subordination. The organization
of compounds in three levels of syntactic and semantic compositionality
appears to be an operative strategy for an important part of data under
consideration.
