Description:
The department of English Education at Korea National University of
Education (KNUE) invites one native speaker of English for a TENURE TRACK
full-time professor position, with specialization in Applied Linguistics,
TEFL, or TESOL. KNUE is Korea's leading university for teacher education
collectively preparing and educating kindergarten, primary, and secondary
school teachers. The successful candidate will be appointed as either a
full-time instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or a full
professor depending on teaching and research experience. The starting date
for this position is scheduled to be March 1, 2010.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be a native speaker of English who has a PhD degree in
Applied Linguistics, TEFL, TESOL, or a related field as of November 12, 2009.
- Applicants should have a strong background in teaching English as a
second or foreign language.

listed in your CV since November 12, 2005
- Copies of authored books listed in your CV since November 12, 2005 if
applicable
- MA dissertation and PhD thesis
- A photocopy from the information page of your passport
- Three ID photographs (5 × 7 cm)
- Certificate(s) of employment issued by the current or previous
employer(s) listed in your CV
Screening Procedure
Telephone interviews will take place for short-listed candidates. The
short-listed candidates will be notified via e-mail by November 20, 2009.
Three final candidates will be selected from the short-listed candidates
and will be required to visit KNUE and give a 20-minute presentation of
their PhD thesis or a designated topic at a time designated in December,
2009. An economy-class round-trip air ticket and two nights' accommodation
in Korea will be provided for the three final candidates. The successful
applicant will be selected and notified by December 31, 2009 via both
e-mail and telephone.
Duties
- Lectures (minimum nine hours per week) for 15 weeks per semester. The
school year at KNUE consists of two semesters. The first starting in March
and the second starting in September.
- Lectures for graduate students for three weeks during summer and winter
vacations
- Office hours
- MA dissertation & PhD thesis supervision
- Faculty meetings
Remuneration
Salary will vary depending on the successful applicant's teaching and
research experience. For example, applicants who have just completed their
PhD degree and have no teaching and research experience can expect a gross
salary of 36 million KRW per annum. Applicants with 10 years of teaching
experience can expect a gross salary of 50 million KRW per annum. An extra
5 million KRW research grant will be provided for the newly appointed
faculty member in the first year. Yearly salary increases are conducted in
accordance with the Korean government's salary scale decision. Approximate
