The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
University of Maryland: TWO Tenure-track Positions in Cognitive Science of
Language
1. Assistant or Associate Professor in Computational Psycholinguistics
2. Assistant Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience of Language
The Linguistics Department at the University of Maryland seeks outstanding
applicants for two tenure-track positions in the cognitive science of
language. The first position is an Assistant or Associate Professor
position in computational psycholinguistics, with a focus on models of
human language processing and/or language learning. The second position is
a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the cognitive neuroscience
of language. Candidates for both positions should contribute to a vibrant
interdisciplinary language and cognitive science community that spans
Linguistics and many other departments, programs, and institutes (e.g.,
Neuroscience and Cognitive Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science, Psychology, Hearing and Speech, Second Language Acquisition, Human
Development, Center for Advanced Study of Language), and should contribute
to the university's NSF-IGERT graduate training program in Biological and
Computational Foundations of Language Diversity. The cognitive
neuroscientist should ideally be able to take advantage of the university's
multi-modal neuroimaging resources, which include ERP and MEG facilities
and a new NSF-sponsored 3T fMRI facility (opening in 2010). Candidates for
both positions should demonstrate the ability to lead an innovative and
collaborative program of research and teaching that integrates
computational and experimental approaches with linguistics and should have
a Ph.D. in Linguistics or another Cognitive Science-related field.
For best consideration, applicants should submit a letter of application,
including a research statement, a CV, and representative samples of
