Meeting Description:
Organized by the Linguistics and TESOL graduate students and faculty, TALGS aims
to provide a serious yet relaxed environment for graduate students and
professionals working in TESL/TEFL and a variety of applied linguistics fields
to present their work, receive feedback, and network. The TALGS Conference
provides graduate students and TESOL professionals (including ESOL, TESL, EFL,
ESL, TEFL, etc.) a forum to showcase their research and successful teaching
practices. TALGS is committed to bettering the educational experiences of
language learners in the community by providing a comfortable environment where
an interaction between theory/research and practice/teaching is possible.

2nd Call for Papers
Call Deadline: 30-Nov-2009
Research Meets Practice & Practice Meets Research.
We encourage submissions from graduate students and professionals whose
research and practice fall broadly under the umbrella of applied linguistics and
TESL/TEFL. The mission of the conference binds us to prioritize proposals from
graduate students and professionals not holding a doctoral degree. If you are
interested in submitting but unsure about eligibility, do email us at
talgs at ecu.edu. We will gladly assist you. We welcome cross-disciplinary
proposals with relevance to language use, learning and/or teaching from a
variety of fields, including, for example, English studies, education, discourse
studies, foreign languages, anthropology, communications, sociolinguistics,
psychology, and sociology. Proposals reporting on action research (inside and
outside the classroom), works in progress, submissions based on successful term
projects, pilot research, as well as proposals for discussion sessions and
workshops are welcome. Presentations requiring computer facilities can be
accommodated. Multiple proposals will be considered. Submit and register via the
conference website. The deadline for proposal submission is Monday, November 30,
2009.
Submission Guidelines:
- Please prepare your proposal in English.
- Your proposal is not your registration. Please pre-register by Sunday, January
18, 2010.
- Limit your abstract to 200 words. Abstracts over this limit will not be accepted.
- Sessions last for 30-40 minutes. Double sessions (~80 minutes) will be
considered.
Registration:
All attendees must register. Pre-registration via the conference website is
completed only when accompanied by a payment by the designated deadline: Early
Bird Pre-registration - postmarked Jan. 18, 2010; Pre-registration- postmarked
Feb. 1, 2010. Onsite registration will be available. Visit

Session Formats:
Papers: 20 minutes for presentation, 10 minutes for questions and answers
Workshops: 40 minutes for practical, hands-on "presentations"
Discussion Panels: 40 minutes for panel discussion on a specific topic and set
of questions
Posters: 60 minutes for poster presentation and display
