Description:

The Machine Translation research group at the Institute of Computational
Linguistics of the University of Zurich is looking for a PhD student to
work in the project 'Domain-specific Statistical Machine Translation'. The
project aims at building machine translation systems for alpine texts (such
as mountaineering reports) between English, French and German.

Qualifications: 
- Master or Diploma in Computational Linguistics or related field
- Languages: good English skills, basic skills in German and French
- Good programming skills
- Experience in Statistical Machine Translation is a plus

Tasks:
- Corpus preparation of our alpine text collection from the British and
Swiss Alpine Clubs
- Named-entity recognition and term extraction over the alpine text collection
- Exploitation of parallel and comparable parts of the corpus
- Experiments in Statistical Machine Translation

Benefits:
- Salary according to the Swiss National Science Foundation rules (40,000
CHF - 46,000 CHF annually)
