Meeting Description: 

ELIAS (Early Language and Intercultural Acquisition Studies) is an EU project
with eighteen partners including academic and educational institutions,
preschools and the Magdeburg Zoo from four European countries, Belgium, England,
Sweden and Germany. Under the lead management of Otto-von-Guericke University
Magdeburg, every bilingual preschool in the project has been monitored by
academic experts over the last two years. The studies cover first and second
language acquisition, intercultural education and bilingual environmental
education ('green immersion' at the Zoo Preschool in Magdeburg). 

The conference is open to professional educators from preschools, primary
schools, non-academic institutions, universities, academics, university
students, parents, consultants, government and business representatives and
anyone with an interest.

The conference intends to:

- Raise the general public's awareness of early language acquisition
- Facilitate an international exchange of experiences
- Present the findings of the EU project ELIAS and best practices
- Emphasise the basic requirements of early language acquisition
- Elucidate language acquisition in preschools and primary schools
- Present bilingual teaching materials for preschools and primary schools
- Provide practical assistance for the establishment of a bilingual preschool
