The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

A full text of the job description can be found at:
http://www.ru.nl/vacaturedetails?recid=498985

As Professor of Second Language Acquisition and Cross-Linguistic Diversity,
you will be giving new and further impetus to teaching and research in this
area, building bridges between English Linguistics and the departments of
Linguistics and Business Communication Studies. Your research-oriented
courses are taught for students in the departments of English and
Linguistics. In your teaching, the emphasis will be on theory and praxis of
second language acquisition.

Research in second language acquisition and cross-linguistic diversity is
embedded in the research institute CLS and will fit one of the CLS research
programmes (http://www.ru.nl/cls/). CLS research combines theoretical
inspiration with a strong empirical and experimental orientation, and is
explicitly interdisciplinary in nature; collaborative partners include the
Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, and the Donders Institute for
Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, both on campus. Your research strengthens
our research lines in second language acquisition and use generally, and
addresses issues of multilingualism related to contact between
linguistically diverse languages.

In addition to teaching and research, you will have administrative
responsibilities related to the chair of English linguistics, the
department of English Language and Culture, and where appropriate, the
Faculty of Arts.
