Description:

The Communication and Information Sciences programme (CIW) is an
interdisciplinary programme in the Faculty of Arts at the University of
Groningen (www.rug.nl/let). CIW is one of the larger programmes in the
Faculty of Arts. Every year around 120 students enter the Bachelor
programme and around 60 the Master programme. The programme has an
outspoken discourse-analytic orientation and covers the following areas:
Organizational communication, Media communication and Computer
communication. The core staff is assigned to the chair for Communication
Studies. Faculty from other departments -- especially Speech Communication
and Discourse Analysis and Information sciences / Humanities computing --
also teach in the programme. We collaborate with departments that offer
minors in the programme (Foreign languages, Information sciences,
Journalism, Linguistics). The research group Discourse & Communication is
part of the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG).  

The department of Communication and Information Sciences offers 3 Lecturer
positions in Communication and Information Sciences (3,0 fte).

The Position:
The new lecturers teach within the Communication and Information Sciences
programme (60 %) and do research within the Discourse & Communication group
(40 %). Supervision of students and course development are also important
tasks. Administrative and management tasks may be part of the function. 

Profile:
Our new colleagues have research and teaching expertise in one (or several)
of the following areas: document design, applied conversation analysis,
media and computer communication. 

Apart from excellent communicative and didactic qualifications, we are
looking for candidates who:
-  have a PhD in a research area that contributes to the
discourse-theoretical approach of communication processes 
-  have experience with teaching and research in one of the following
areas: document design, applied conversation analysis, media and computer
communication
-  are able to develop courses and teaching formats that give shape to the
profile of the CIW programme 
-  are professionally involved and engaged, documented by publications and
other research activities 
-  have an excellent command of Dutch and English, or are prepared to learn
Dutch within reasonable time 

The University of Groningen offers:
A salary dependent on qualifications and work experience with a minimum of
3195 Euros per month (salary scale 11) till a maximum of 4970 Euros per
month (salary scale 12) for a full-time position. Two full-time
appointments will be for a period of two years. One full-time appointment
will be for a period of two years, with the prospect of appointment for an
indefinite period (tenure track), based on an appraisal in the second year.

Date of entry into employment commences: 1 August 2010

A short lecture may be part of the selection procedure.
