The aim of the workshop is to provide a space for the development of dialogue
between dialectologists, language community activists, and others working on the
development of orthographies regarding the issues that arise during the creation
of writing systems in places where there is dialect variation and there is no
writing system, or there is a writing system for a national language but not for
the particular language. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length, followed by
a 10-minute discussion period. Please note that there could also be sessions for
poster presentations depending on participants' interest.
Call for Papers: Extended Deadline
'Dialogue on Dialect Standardization' at Methods 14 has extended its deadline to
15 December 2010
Methods in Dialectology 14, to be held at the University of Western Ontario
(London, Ontario, Canada) from 2 to 6 August 2011, is pleased to announce a call
for papers for its workshop 'Dialogue on Dialect Standardization'.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a space for the development of dialogue
between dialectologists, language community activists, and others working on the
development of orthographies regarding the issues that arise during the creation
of writing systems in places where there is dialect variation and there is no
writing system, or there is a writing system for a national language but not for
the particular language. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length, followed by
a 10-minute discussion period. Please note that there could also be sessions for
poster presentations depending on participants' interest.
Please submit your abstract, of up to 300 words excluding bibliography, by
e-mail attachment (as Word, RTF or PDF files - please use PDF if there are any
potential problems with fonts) to <methods14 at uwo.ca>. Put 'Abstract For Dialogue
On Standardization' in the subject line. Make the abstract as anonymous as
possible, and include the title. In the body of your e-mail message, include the
contact details of author(s) and a statement as to whether the paper is intended
for oral presentation, a poster session or either.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 December 2010. The anonymous
abstracts will be refereed by the Workshop organizing committee, and authors
will be notified of acceptance before the end of January 2011.
The main language of the conference is English but specific sessions may be
conducted in French.
