Meeting Description:
2010 may rightly be called the Robert Lowth Year: on 27 November it will have
been three hundred years since he was born "in his Father's Prebendal house in
the Close Winchester", as he himself wrote in his brief Memoirs.
To celebrate this event as well as the fact that his grammar may be called the
most important grammar published during the eighteenth century, the VICI
research project The Codifiers and the English Language is organising a two-day
symposium in Leiden, on 17 and 18 December.
Plenary speaker at the symposium will be Carol Percy, from the University of
Toronto.
