Meeting Description: 

The annual conference on the history of linguistics is for researchers from all over the world. Papers on any topic in the history of linguistics are welcome, but this year there is a particular focus on biography in the history of linguistics and on the work and world of J. R. Firth. The Leslie Seiffert Leture will be delivered by Prof. John Joseph who will talk about his biography of Saussure. 

Bookings should be made using the form available on the Henry Sweet Society website (http://www.henrysweet.org) and must be returned by 1 July 2010.  Payment may be made by Sterling cheque or by credit card.

The University of Sheffield is the leading centre for the study of the History of Linguistics in the UK with teaching in the subject delivered via a range of modules at undergraduate and Master's level. The University was founded in 1905 and is one of the top 20 research-intensive universities in the country. Sheffield is conveniently located in the middle of the country, only two hours travel from London and in close proximity to major airports.  It is a dynamic city of 500,000 people, rich in history and surrounded by the Peak District national park.
