Description:

The Institute for Intelligent Systems invites applications for a research 
assistant professor position.  The candidate should have specialized skills as 
an experimental psychologist.  The primary function is to oversee all research 
activities on large scale projects. Experience with design & development of 
advanced learning technologies and experience pursuing external funding is 
also required.  

The applicant should have research skills at the intersection between 
psychology, discourse processing, and computer technology.  These would 
include but are not limited to an understanding of the mechanisms of 
questions quality and answers, the application of conversational agents and 
mechanisms involved in vicarious learning.  The candidate should also have 
demonstrated interests and experience in intelligent tutoring systems and 
educational applications.  

A Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or a related field is required.  The candidate 
must have experience in grant writing, project management, development of 
research experiences in cognitive psychology, research design and statistics, 
discourse processes. Knowledge of Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Applied 
Learning Technologies in K-12, Advanced Distributed Learning and learning 
standards such as SCORM, is a must. Knowledge in Learning Technologies, 
statistical analysis, advanced SPSS skills, Research Design for laboratory 
and classroom experimentation, experience creating Animated Agents and 
multimedia environments are also needed.  

The position will begin in August 2010. Annual contract renewal is contingent 
on the outcome of annual evaluations as well as continued external funding.
