Meeting Description:

The theme of this workshop is "les méthodologies de recherche impliquant des
outils de mesure articulatoire dans la description et l'analyse des langues des
 signes" (Research methodologies which involve motion capture systems in the
description and analysis of sign languages).Though the expansion of techniques
of articulatory imaging allows the use of motion capture systems for the
description of sign languages, their use is not yet widespread and there are no
standards used across the field. 

This workshop offers a forum in which participants can present and compare their
research protocols and methodologies for collecting and analyzing data. 
Participants will also show results gathered from the use of motion capture
systems. With this workshop, we wish to encourage the presentation of various
methodological and theoretical issues which have not been considered in the
literature on sign language processing and/or on the description of sign languages.

The TALS workshop will be divided into three blocks. The first block will
include four talks. The second block will be reserved for demonstrations and
posters. Finally, the third block will consist of a group problem solving
session concluding with a round table discussion. This last block aims to
stimulate debates and discussions among researchers.

The organizing committee will ask a scientific committee to evaluate the
propositions.

Languages of the Workshop
The official language of the conference is French. Papers in English will be
accepted for non francophone speakers. This conference will provide interpreters
translating between French and LSQ (Quebec Sign Language), as well as English
and LSQ. 

Call for Papers

Submissions
Three types of presentations are provided:
- Oral presentations (long papers, 8 to 10 pages) 
- Posters (short papers, 4 to 6 pages)
- Demonstrations (maximum of one page, Letter format)

Long and short papers will be published in the processings of the TALN conference.
1- Propositions should be sent by e-mail to Dominique Machabée 
(machabee.dominique at uqam.ca) (PDF or DOC files). Please, send proposition and 
personal information on separate files:
File 1
-  Title of the presentation
-  Type of presentation
-  Last name and first name of the author(s) (for each author, include complete
postal address, e-mail, phone number and affiliation).
File 2
-  Full text in French or English for non francophone speakers. Papers should
not be more than 10 pages (long papers) and six pages (short papers) and
(including figures, examples and references). The text should be written in
Times 12, single spacing, Letter format (21,59 × 27,94 cm).

2- Deadline for all type of presentations: April 2nd, 2010.

3- Notification for acceptance (to the first author): May 3rd, 2010. The final
version of long and short papers should be received no later than May 21st, 2010.

4- Oral presentations are 20 minutes, in addition of 10 minutes for questions
and discussion.
