Dear Subscribers,

I was using The LINGUIST List before I started working here, 
and while I found it to be an infomative and convenient service, 
I had no idea how many things LINGUIST had to offer. Only after 
becoming a student worker here did I begin to learn of all the 
resources The LINGUIST List offers to the community.

My first editing positions for The LINGUIST List were in the Calls 
and Conferences areas. This high volume area was a perfect, if 
intense, introduction to the editor's side of The LINGUIST List. 
Since then I have also worked as an editor for the Queries/Sums 
and FYI sections. I have always loved the individual 'personalities' 
of the various topics we announce on the list, and the wealth of 
information I have come across while editing submissions. I hope 
that you, our readers, also appreciate the variety of announcements 
we make through the list. Please help keep this service free by

In addition to my tasks as an editor, I have had the opportunity 
to work on a few of LINGUIST's projects. I've worked as the 
Australia and New Zealand area specialist for the LL-Map project, 
a comprehensive site of geolinguistic information that LINGUIST 
List has created. For this, I looked into collaborating with one 
of the anthropologists at Eastern Michigan University on her work 
with the Maori people. Hearing stories of her work there was 
invaluable to me in itself, and I hope that such intellectual 
partnerships can be used to promote the work of scholars and 
establish maps with information unique to our site. This is only 
the beginning of a greater plan to allow GIS work to be entered 
directly through our 'Scholar's Workbench' feature. This is a free 
online resource we have developed and hope you find it as useful
