Meeting Description:

'Unity in Diversity' is a conference organized for scholars whose areas of
interest float away from the mainstream discoveries in literary,linguistic, and
cultural studies. We appreciate the significance of peripheral research, and
believe that it deserves to see the light of a conference instead of being
hidden in the dark dusty drawers of a researcher's cabinet. Nothing that has the
potential to attract the human mind should be dismissed or disregarded. We
encourage you to take part in the Unity in Diversity 
conference, and look forward to meeting you in Szczecin. 

Call for Papers

Recent literary, linguistic and cultural studies have been largely dominated by
burgeoning new theories paving the way for the most interesting and up-to-date
concepts, notions and ideas. Yet there are many scholars whose main research
area is centered at the peripheries of these mainstream discoveries thus leading
to the emergence of niche fields of study within current literary and linguistic
research 
projects.

The International Conference on Niche Areas in Commonwealth Linguistics,
Literature and Culture gives an opportunity for previously disregarded topics to
be rediscovered and brought back to light and interest of contemporary academic
research.

This conference will provide a stimulating environment for scholars to present
their work and discuss key ideas centered on the issues of disregarded notions
in literary, cultural and linguistic studies from the dawn of Commonwealth
cultures to their present day stages. Although the conference's primary focus
will be literature, linguistics and culture based, paper proposals are also
welcome from scholars 
in related disciplines of English-speaking cultures.

Topics proposed are:
Representations of "the Excluded" in literature and art
Literary pieces based on social prejudice
The significance of inclusion
Language and cultural identity
Linguistic exclusion
Language evolution, diversity and linguistic change in the Commonwealth
Minority and migrant languages in the Commonwealth
Multilingualism 
The omitted and the forgotten in Commonwealth history
The taboo, the forbidden and the queer in literature, film and popular culture
Discrimination (in literature/political/linguistic)

Standard registration fee is: 125 EUR
Reduced registration fee for BA and MA students: 40 EUR
Staff and students of the English Philology Department, Szczecin University: no
registration fee.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words for papers not exceeding 20 minutes should
be submitted by 15 April 2010.Please include the title of your paper, your name,
e-mail address, and institutional affiliation.
Selected papers will be published.

Notification of acceptance will be given by 30 April 2010.
