Meeting Description:

The aim of this conference is to bring together linguists from different
theoretical perspectives to discuss current research on Ibero-Romance languages. 

Call for Papers
We invite both papers presenting empirical analyses of specific linguistic
phenomena and more general theoretical papers. We will group them as much as
possible in the following three sections:

Section 1: Historical Linguistics
This section welcomes diachronic studies on syntactic and/or semantic change,
lexicon and etymology. The focus may be on a specific historical period or on
various diachronic stages of one language envisaged from the general linguistic
evolution in the Iberian Peninsula and/or in Latin America. The analysis of
particular changes is expected to favour the discussion on theoretical models
concerned with language change. 

Section 2: Linguistics and cognition
This section aims at answering the question as to how language structures
conceptual categories such as space and time, entities and processes,
localisation and motion, force and causal relations. Reflection can extend to
the structuring of ideational and affective categories attributed to cognitive
agents, e.g. attention and perspective, volition and intention, or dwell on the
existence of concurring forms of expression within the same language, as well as
on paradigmatic variation from one language to the other. 

Section 3: Discourse linguistics 
Discourse linguistics privileges the study of variation phenomena linked to the
perspective of the enunciation, the communication and social interaction between
speech participants. This vast domain includes the analysis of discourse markers
(argumentative operators, connectives) and of lexical and morpho-syntactic modal
elements in terms of discourse strategies and pragmatic inferencing.

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations plus 10 minutes for
discussion. Presentations and abstracts will be in Spanish, English or French.

Guidelines for abstract submission:
The abstract will specify the subject addressed as well as the main conclusions.
It should also outline the empirical data on which the analysis is based, and
cite the main references to previous work on the subject. 

Abstracts will be anonymous, should not exceed 500 words (exclusive of
references), and contain three to five key words specifying the (sub)domain, the
topic and the approach. They should comply with the formatting of the MS Word
template available at http://www.arts.kuleuven.be/CILIR2011/
.
Acceptance is based on anonymous review of submitted abstracts. 

The abstracts (in doc format) should be registered at the website
www.arts.kuleuven.be/cilir2011 and should be sent as e-mail attachments to
cilir2011 at arts.kuleuven.be before July 1 2010. May we kindly request you to name
the attachment: "cilir2011 last_name first_name.doc".

Deadline for submission:  July 1, 2010
Notification of acceptance will be given by October 10, 2010.
