Subfield Challenge Update
Historical Linguistics is about to take over the lead!
Syntax is clinging to the top by just a bit and unless
they can come up with some more donors, they may lose
their lead to historical linguistis!
General linguistics has also pushed forward and has a
very good chance at winning the challenge too.
Language Acquisitionists are only $340 away from getting
an extra $1000 and also taking the lead. So, a call to
all those language acquisitionists out there: Come and
donate now! Your donation will be doubled if you reach the
goal! Make your subfield proud!
Donate now:
https://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm
Sociolinguistics and Phonology are also close by and could
take a place in the top three fields with just a few more
donations.
Current Standings:
Syntax: $1,945
Historical Linguistics: $1,881
General Linguistics: $1,225
Language Acquisition: $1,160
Sociology: $1,111
Phonology: $1,100
Semantics: $522
Typology: $520
Language Documentation: $500
Computational Linguistics: $485
Morphology: $415
Phonetics: $366
Discourse: $345
Applied Linguistics: $320
History of Linguistics: $300
Writing Systems: $250
Lexicography: $245
Psycholinguistics: $225
Translation: $200
Neurolinguistics: $200
Text/Corpus Linguistics: $140
Pragmatics: $125
Anthropological Linguistics: $55
Which subfield will win? Which subfield will finish in
first place? We are 15 hours away from the end of the
challenge.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
