Call Deadline: 15-Apr-2010

Meeting Description:

The conference aims to provide a venue for linguists and other scholars to
explore phenomena of human communication and cognition from the perspective of
relevance theory as well as related and competing approaches. We would also like
to encourage those interested in translation studies and literary analysis to
test and evaluate the efficiency of relevance theory with regard to those fields
of studies.

Call for Papers

Papers are invited that range from purely theoretical linguistic and/or
pragmatic studies to empirical applications in language, translation and literature.

More specifically, we welcome submissions in the following areas:

- state-of-the-art developments, modifications and critiques of relevance theory;
- practical applications of relevance theory (e.g. language learning/teaching,
translation studies, literary theory);
- mental representations, concepts, the architecture of the mind;
- meaning and communication;
- ways of interpreting various types of discourse;
- social aspects of communication and language use;
- experimental studies verifying or falsifying predictions derived from
relevance theory.

contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
