The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
Positions in Phonological Development: Postdoc, PhD Support
Several positions at various levels (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, PhD
students) are available at Macquarie University to pursue research on
issues of phonological and morphological development in various populations
as part of the new Phonological Development Project at The Centre for
Language Sciences (CLaS). Positions are available beginning August 1, 2010
and will remain open until filled.
The project addresses issues regarding how and when phonological and
morphological representations develop, and how this is realized in speech
perception, planning and production. It uses a wide variety of data and
research methods (corpus analysis, language production experiments,
acoustic analysis, ultrasound, MEG, computational modeling). We are
particularly interested in experimentalists with a solid background in
statistics and acoustic phonetics, including knowledge of spectral
analysis. Experience with ultrasound, MEG, and/or running experiments with
young children is also welcomed.
Macquarie University continues its long tradition in the speech sciences by
bringing together researchers concerned with all aspects of speech
perception and production. This is enhanced by excellent facilities for
conducting linguistic research on a range of typical and language-impaired
child and adult populations, as well as the only child-sized MEG machine in
the world. All will be brought under one roof with the opening of the new
Hearing Hub, which will house researchers and clinicians from Linguistics,
Cognitive Science, the National Acoustics Laboratory, Cochlear and others.
Postdoctoral Package: From $79,843 pa, including (Level A, Step 6) base
salary $67,468 to $72,372 pa, annual leave loading and 17% employer's
superannuation.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
