Description:
The International M.Sc./Ph.D. Programme for Experimental and Clinical Linguistics
(IECL) at the University of Potsdam constitutes an integrated and structured
training in the fields of Neurolinguistics, Clinical Linguistics and Psycholinguistics.
It is characterised by an intensive research-oriented training of high international
standard.
Areas of Specialization within the program include:
- General psycho- and neurolinguistics: dynamic modelling
- Language acquisition and developmental language impairments
- Neurocognition of language and clinical linguistics
Structure of the Programme
The IECL programme consists of an initial common segment beginning in the
summer term. In the common first year, all students participate in theoretical and
empirical course offerings taught in English. Thereafter, two separate segments
are offered preparing for a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree, respectively. The M.Sc. degree
is achieved by the writing of a Master's thesis (to be completed within a six
months period), the Ph.D. degree by writing and defending a Ph.D. dissertation
(within a three-year period).
Entry Requirements
For the admission to the M.Sc. at least a seven-semester Bachelor's degree (or
the equivalent of 210 cp) is required in psycho-, patho- or neurolinguistics or
another related field. Requirements for the immediate entry into the Ph.D. segment
are a diploma, Master or Magister degree after at least 4.5 years of study (or 270
cp) in a relevant field with grade A or B or a Bachelor's degree after a minimum of
3.5 years (with a minimum of 210 cp) in an experimental neurocognitive area with
an outstanding grade (A) and excellent references. Non-native English applicants
must demonstrate an excellent command of English by passing an internationally
recognised language test (TOEFL).
Application
The application period starts on November 15, 2010 and ends on January 1, 2011
to begin in April 2011. Candidates wishing to start the programme immediately with
the Ph.D. segment can also apply for admission to the winter term. In this case,
the application period ends on June 1, 2011.
