Description:
The University of Luxembourg offers support for a Junior Researcher (Ph.D. Student)
in the field of Sociolinguistics in educational contexts(M/F).
The Ph.D. student will join the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts
and Education (FLSHASE). S/he will be a member of the LCMI research unit
(Language, Culture, Media, Identities). The multidisciplinary research unit focuses on
research on sociocultural and interactional processes of learning and development
within multilingual and multicultural contexts.
The successful applicant will have a Master (or equivalent) in linguistics, education or
related domain. He/She will be familiar with aspects of at least one of the following
frameworks: mediated discourse analysis, situated approaches to learning,
multimodal approaches to discourse, critical discourse analysis, interactional
sociolinguistics, or related approaches.
S/he will be interested in developing research in one of the following areas : role of
language in learning and change, work and workplace learning ; language in the
workplace; vocational teaching and training, transitions across spaces of learning;
novice/expert teacher's practices ; dynamics of learning and change ; classroom
interactions ; tutoring practices, time and learning.
The successful applicant will be willing and able to engage in ethnographic fieldwork
in multilingual and multicultural environments.
As the candidate has to integrate into a multilingual research team, s/he has
excellent command of at least two of the following languages: English, German,
French (written and spoken). Command of Luxembourgish and/or Portuguese as well
as knowledge of the Luxembourgish context would be a plus.
