Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position
Georgia State University
Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL
Atlanta, GA 30302-4099

Georgia State University's Department of Applied Linguistics/ESL is
accepting applications for an anticipated tenure-track position at the
assistant professor level, pending budgetary approval, to complement
departmental research strengths in one or more of the following areas: (1)
Language and Literacy Learning and Teaching; (2) Language Analysis and Use,
and (3) Applied and Critical Perspectives on Language, Culture, and
Society. The Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL consists of three
academic programs (BA, MA, and PhD in Applied Linguistics), an English as a
Second Language (ESL) program that provides instruction for university
matriculated ESL students at undergraduate and graduate levels, and a large
Intensive English Program (IEP) that provides a comprehensive pre-academic
course of study in academic language development for ESL students who wish
to matriculate at Georgia State University (GSU) or other post-secondary
institutions.

Candidates will have a doctorate in Applied Linguistics or a closely
related field by the time of the appointment. Specializations of interest
include oral discourse analysis, pragmatics, assessment, and English as a
lingua franca. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in researching
language-related issues in urban settings are particularly welcome.  

Successful candidates must demonstrate a coherent research agenda, record
of relevant publications, and demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate
and/or graduate courses, particularly with applications to second language
research and pedagogy. Preferred candidates with also have a record of
external funding and experience teaching ESL/EAP.

Review of the applicants will begin November 30, 2010; applications
received after December 15th may not receive full consideration. The
preferred starting date is fall semester, 2011. Salary is commensurate with
experience.
