Description:
Teaching Fellow in Interpreting and Modern Languages
Grade 8 £36,715 per annum (pro-rata)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Fellow to join the School
of Modern Languages and Linguistics to cover teaching and related course
administration in interpreting on our Bachelor of Arts Modern Languages
with Interpreting programme. The role involves co-ordinating the
interpreting programme at Levels 2 and 3, teaching on modules that
introduce students to the practice of conference interpreting (both
simultaneous and consecutive) and liaison interpreting. The teaching fellow
in interpreting supervises the work of language tutors who deliver some of
the language-specific modules and content, while delivering others
him/herself. There may be some further teaching in our other programmes
depending on your interests and area of specialisation. You will report
directly to the Head of School in matters regarding the interpreting degree
and work with the heads of individual language departments regarding any
teaching undertaken in those departments.
The School of Modern Languages offers an excellent environment for applied
linguists, with well-established postgraduate programmes in translation
studies, screen translation, and multilingual information management.
The successful candidate will have a background in conference interpreting
and a familiarity with liaison interpreting; will ideally speak French and
German at near-native level; will have a Master of Arts or equivalent
experience; and will be familiar with working practices in a Higher
Education environment. Teaching experience and qualifications will be an
advantage.
The post is fixed-term with a start date of November 2010 or as soon as
possible thereafter, and a fixed end date of 31st December 2011.
The post is part-time; 60% working commitment, days of working to be agreed.
