Meeting Description:

Preliminary Notice

The world of corpus linguistics has expanded to include diachronic as well
as synchronic corpora, with ARCHER (A Representative Corpus of
Historical English Registers) serving as a model for a number of other
historical corpora, in terms of annotations and representativeness. Now is
an opportune time to bring specialists together to discuss the construction,
annotation and analysis of diachronic corpora in a variety of languages.
This conference is organised by the GerManC Project, which aims to
compile a representative historical corpus of written German for the years
1650-1800, and is supported by the ESRC and AHRC.

The following have agreed to give plenary papers:

David Denison (Manchester)
Anke Lüdeling (Berlin)
Terttu Nevalainen (Helsinki)
Klaus-Peter Wegera (Bochum)

Organisational Committee:

Martin Durrell
Paul Bennett
Silke Scheible
Richard J. Whitt

Call For Papers

Abstracts for papers (20 minutes duration, with 10 minutes discussion)
dealing with any aspects of historical corpora in any language are now
invited. Abstracts should be a maximum of 500 words, and be sent by 1
December 2010 to Richard Jason Whitt (richard.whitt at manchester.ac.uk).
Abstracts will be reviewed by a committee consisting of David Denison,
Núria Yáñez-Bouza and the conference organisers. Notification of
acceptance will be sent by 15 December. Depending on the number of
abstracts received, some submissions may be accepted for presentation as
posters. It is intended that accepted papers will be published in some form.

The conference will take place at the University of Manchester's
Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre
(http://www.chancellorshotel.co.uk/) which is an ideal environment for formal
and informal meetings. There will be no conference fee, and
accommodation and meals will be provided at cost. The language of the
conference is English.
