The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to engage in non-discriminatory
hiring practices. We urge employers not to discriminate on the grounds of race,
ethnicity, nationality, disability, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

Research Assistant needed for work on new/village sign languages

The Sign Language Research Lab at the University of Haifa has been
investigating a newly emerging sign language among the Al-Sayyid Bedouins.
Recently, we have begun to investigate additional village sign languages
found in a variety of different communities within Israel. These and other
projects seek to gain insight into the ways in which a grammatical language
emerges without a model in a small community with a high incidence of
deafness, and to compare and contrast different linguistic and social
variables across communities. A Research Assistant for this project is
needed for fieldwork, coding, and analysis of data at all levels of
structure, specifically, phonology, morphology, syntax, and prosody. Some
technical and administrative duties are also included.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return

costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
