Dear Colleagues,
Recently I was looking at the traffic monitor on
the LINGUIST List site. Last week we had an average
of 5000 site unique site visits per day. Our usual
average is 6000 per day--for some inexplicable reason
(smile), site visits go down during fund drive.
Nevertheless, in the last month, our main pages have had:
- 164,489 unique site visits
- and 525,845 page views
And this does not count:
- 2,081 visits to the LL-MAP site (http://llmap.org)
- 800 visits to the GOLD ontology site (http://linguistics-ontology.org)
- 3,780 visits to MultiTree (http://multitree.org)
It's gratifying that the linguistics community is
finding and using the new project facilities we've
worked so hard on for the last 5 years; and we would
expect this usage to snowball once word gets out and
usage reaches a critical mass.
But even now, with the project views added in, the
LINGUIST List site has garnered well over 170,000
unique visits and 600,000 page views--IN A SINGLE
MONTH.
Now, I can't help but reflect that if each one of
those viewer had left a dollar behind we'd be free
of fund drive for 3 years. If they'd left a euro,
we'd be free for 6 years. And if they'd just left
a dime, we finish this year's fund drive today.
We only need $14,600. But the ticket has been stalled
for over 24 hours...
Now I know that 837 of you have already donated--
and have given a lot more than a dime each. Our
heartfelt thanks go out to the LL users who support
our work, and do so year after year.
But if any of you reading this form part of the 169,200
who used the site last month but haven't yet donated,
please take a moment and donate at:
https://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm
Any amount is greatly appreciated!
All the best,
-Helen

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
