Call for Papers: Editorial voices in EFL academic journal publishing

As a follow-up to our 2009 publication by Asian EFL Journal Press Accepting
Alternative Voices in EFL Journal Articles, Roger Nunn and John Adamson are
compiling a new edited book which looks at the editorial voices in EFL
academic publishing. We are looking for potential contributions from within
journal editorial boards/reviewers on the following main themes:

Reviewer perspectives on editing for non-publishing house journals
Editorial responses to the literature on authors' experiences in publishing
Challenging academic writing norms
Developing reviewers
Reviewer-author relations

Possible themes for contributions:

Academic writing genre & its norms

Papers looking at alternative genres which challenge the norms of academic
writing (Nunn & Adamson, 2009).

Reviewer perceptions of reviewing, i.e.
Papers looking at how reviewers/editors perceive their roles and
responsibilities towards authors in the editorial process.

Editorial/reviewer development, i.e.
Papers looking at how editorial systems are managed and reviewers/editors
are developed.

Anglophone/Non-Anglophone scholar issues, i.e.
Papers looking at how reviewers/editorial boards respond to the
experiences/struggles of non-Anglophone & Anglophone authors.

Journal positioning, i.e.
Papers looking at how journals position themselves in the field, as elitist
or stepping stones into publishing for the less experienced scholar. How do
reviewers position themselves in light of their journal's positioning?

Research into editorial systems and reviewing, i.e.
Papers looking at the management of journal editorial systems and the peer
review process. What methodologies effectively gauge a journal's system of
review?

Challenging norms of reviewing, i.e.
Papers looking into the nature of peer review and its alternatives.

Pathways into publishing & the academic community: networking the
off-networked, i.e.
Papers looking into how journal reviewers/editors create pathways into the
academic community and publishing for scholars seeking a 'conversation of
the discipline' (Bazerman, 1980).

The deadline for proposals of up to 500 words is: May 31st, 2011.

Acceptances will be announced by July 31st, 2011.

Full papers need to be submitted by November 30th, 2011

Publication will be March 2012.

Enquiries and proposals should be sent to John Adamson
